Ruth Hamilton Prengle

Ruth Hamilton Prengle passed away on September 26, 2007 at the age of 87. She served her country in World War II, attaining the rank of First Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps. She received her degree in nursing from the University of Michigan's School of Nursing prior to the war, and continued to serve in various capacities as a nurse throughout most of her life prior to retirement.

Ruth and her family resided in the Houston, Texas area, primarily Friendswood, for over forty years before moving to San Antonio. While in Houston, Ruth was active in many volunteer organizations such as the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and was an active member of her parish church, St. Paul's Episcopal where she was the first woman elected to the vestry in 1975.

In addition, Ruth held several leadership positions in the Diocese of Texas' Episcopal Church Women: as a director of the United Thank Offering and as the treasurer of the Vera Gang Scott Scholarship fund. Ruth's mission was to serve and care for others, which she did with grace throughout her life.

She is preceded in death by a son, Karl William Prengle, and her husband of 63 years, H. William Prengle.

Ruth is survived by daughter, Pixie Koch and son-in-law Kenneth J. Koch, of San Antonio; son, Scott Hamilton Prengle and daughter-in-law, Michelle Prengle, of Dallas; and grandchildren, Jennifer Ruth Sykes of San Antonio and Robert Hamilton Prengle of Dallas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Morningside Ministries, 730 Babcock Road, San Antonio, TX 78201-4936.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
