Rutilo "Rudy" Peña was called home on March 31st 2017. Rudy Peña was born on July 30th 1931, and enjoyed a life full of faith, family, and love. Rudy is survived by his loving wife, Araceli Peña, his three daughters, Araceli Johnson and her husband Michael, Lorena Peña, Lenny Hermann and her husband Don, his son Richard Peña, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Rudy, or Papa Peña, as many people lovingly called him, worked for United Airlines for more than 30 years and enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and church. He was born in Monterrey, Mexico but with a will for the American Dream came to United States in the 1940s and took his first job at a steel factory. Rudy was never scared of hard work, which he instilled in his children. He had a great laugh and gave the best hugs. Papa Peña was his happiest with a house full of family, friends, and food. He made award-winning salsa, sought-after margaritas, and it was not odd to find him in front of his grill. He loved his San Antonio Spurs, playing cards, dominos, watching Team Mexico or Team USA in soccer, and giving great advice. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched with his unassuming way of helping people and because he always had time for those he loved. The incredible love for his wife and kids set an example of what it means to be a husband, father, and man.
A special thank you to the Gentiva Hospice and his nurse Tammy Huey, for their loving care and support. Also, thank you to Porter Loring Mortuaries for all of the arrangements and kind support. And thank you to all the people that have prayed for him on his journey to be with our Father in heaven.
Family will receive friends Monday, April 3rd beginning at 6:00 pm at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N. Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm.
Funeral Mass for Rudy will be on Tuesday, April 4th at 10:00 am at the Shrine of Padre Pio of Pietrelcina Catholic Church, 3843 Bulverde Parkway, San Antonio.
