

RIESTER- Sallie Krusen Riester, age 80, died Tuesday, June 6, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born October 16, 1942, in Washington D.C. to Henry Stanley Krusen and Elizabeth Hoopes Krusen. She grew up in Summit, NJ and graduated from Kent Place School. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from Mills College, and, thereafter, in New York City, she worked in research at the Rockefeller Institute. She married Dr. Albert Eric Riester and moved to San Antonio, TX where he served as a Captain in the United States Air Force. Sallie received a Master of Science degree in Hospital Administration from Trinity University after which she worked as Assistant to the Chair of Anesthesiology at The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio until retirement.
In her youth, Sallie spent summers and raced sail boats off the shores of Shelter Island, NY. In Texas, she spent weekends boating and hosting friends at Point Venture on Lake Travis and embraced ranch life at the family property in Fredericksburg. Most recently, and, until her death, she was a summer resident of Manchester Center, VT.
Sallie was a volunteer with the Junior League in New York City and a sustaining member of the San Antionio chapter. She became a loyal member of First Presbyterian Church and sang in the sanctuary choir. In her free time, Sallie was an avid reader and creator of anything originating from fiber. She was a student of weaving at the Southwest School of Art, loved classical music, and supported theater. Sallie was a patron of the Majestic Theater, San Antonio Symphony, Dorset Theater, Manchester Music Festival, and San Antonio Handweavers Guild. She loved to travel independently and internationally, documenting her excursions with photography. She had a passion for genealogy and traveled to research and catalogue family origins.
Sallie was, most of all, a loyal friend, devoted mom, and special grandmother and aunt. All who knew and loved her will miss her steadfast love and loyalty, holiday meals, and hand-made treasures.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Albert Eric Riester; son, Eric Stanley Riester, and her parents. Sallie is survived by daughter, Dr. Lauren Riester Pinchbeck and husband Greg; Dr. Antoinette Riester-Wood and husband Craig Wood; granddaughter, Avery Elizabeth Riester; grandson, Gregory Eric Pinchbeck; cousin, Edward Hoopes III; sister-in-law, Janet Evans Riester; brother-in-law, Hubert A. Riester; and many nieces, nephews and their children.
