He lived the majority of his life in Austin, graduating from William B. Travis High School in 1958, and he later graduated from Southwest Texas State College. Soon after graduation from college, he began a life-long career in the insurance/risk management industry.
He retired from the State of Texas as a risk manager for a major state agency. He served as an officer in the Texas National Guard and was called to active duty during the Berlin Crisis. He was the grandson of the founder of the Lucchese Boot Company and was very proud of his family heritage.
His survivors include his son and daughter-in-law Sam B. Lucchese III and Jennifer of Raleigh, N.C.; sister and brother-in-law Sally and Jerry Griffin of Austin; former wife Margaret Lucchese of Austin; and step-daughter Ashley Lucchese of Chicago. Also surviving are his two grandchildren, Sam B. Lucchese IV and Talley Lucchese of Raleigh.
