A loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he is survived by his four children, Samuel "Sonny" Mendoza (Esmeralda), Homer Mendoza (Lydia), Debra Orsatti (Dr. Louis), and Kathy Buentello (Jerry); his six grandchildren, Valerie Mendoza, Christopher Mendoza, Bianca Annette Casaubon (Denis), Kristin Partida (David), Ryan Orsatti, and Dr. Matthew Orsatti; and his one great grandchild, Coraline Harper Casaubon, in addition to several siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lupe Mendoza, and parents Cruz and Dionicia Mendoza.
Sam was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas on August 13, 1928. After high school, Sam joined the United States Air Force and served honorably for several years before working as a civilian at Kelly Air Force Base. Sam was a resourceful and meticulous man who took pride in his many home projects. Further, Sam cherished the opportunity to spend time with and bless his grandchildren. A couple of his most notable projects for his grandchildren included a backyard playset, complete with a slide and swings, and a beautiful backyard playhouse. Sam will be greatly missed by his family here on earth, but the many memories made will remain etched in the hearts of his family until they meet him again in Heaven someday. The family of Sam would like to thank his gracious caregiver, Adriana Silaghi, for all of the attention and time she devoted to his wellbeing.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m., Monday, April 4, 2016, at Cornerstone Church Vada Hagee Chapel.
