

Sam Sanchez, Jr., age 91, passed away peacefully at home with loved ones by his side, on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born in San Antonio, TX on February 20, 1931. He was a graduate of Fox Tech High School where he was an outstanding athlete in track and field, swimming, boxing, and a star football player. He went on to play football at Trinity University in San Antonio where he graduated in 1952 with a degree in kinesiology. He was an accomplished athlete winning the Golden Gloves in boxing he was also inducted into the Hispanic Hall of Fame for his achievements while playing football at Trinity University. He married his sweetheart Xandra Antoinette Neri (Pinky) on June 6, 1953.
Shortly thereafter he began his career at Prudential Insurance Company where his unrivaled work ethic and charming personality lent him to achieving great success within his industry where he received many awards and recognitions for his achievements. He was an artist who had the great fortune to study under Warren Hunter. He was trained in classical dance as well as classical guitar. He was a master gardener and a master woodworker. His greatest pride however, was being a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maria & Sam Sanchez, Sr.; brother, Joseph Sanchez; sister, Mary Lou (Moye); brother, Ernest Sanchez; sister, Stella (Orozco). Sam is survived by his devoted wife, Xandra; and son, Sam Sanchez III (Phyllis); son, Michael Edward Sanchez; son, Ralph Roman Sanchez (Dianna); 8 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 7, 2022, at Porter Loring Mortuary.
