I'm heartbroken; Sam was a brother-in-law that anyone would have been blessed to have.  He always treated me with the utmost respect and was one of the really nicest human beings I've ever met.  My wife and I send our deepest condolences and prayers to his wife Debra and the rest of Sam's family and friends.

Sam Rush and I are both from New York. My aunt lived in Springfield Gardens on 139th Avenue and Sam Rush and my first  cousin  Freddy Moore were the same class. Thanks for your friendship my brother.

My first introduction was to CSM Rush and not Sampson. As his MSG, he made me stay late to do an NCOER on one of my Soldiers. It was a Friday. I stayed until almost 9PM. He ordered us a pizza. It was at that moment that I discovered the unique goodness of Sam. From that moment forward, we grew into a sense of Brotherhood that seldom exists anymore. I love him, and I will miss him. Simple as that. Prayers for strength to Deb and the Rush family. I can see his smile and hear his voice even now, saying…Dixon, you ain’t going nowhere till that NCOER is done! The NCOER got done and because of Sam, it was done willingly. He lead, as well as taught. A shining example of what right looked like. I will take a part of him with me always. I just want to covey my heartfelt sympathy to Deborah and the entire Rush family and friends.  Sam was a wonderful person and just a great human being. He was always kind  and had great love for the Lord.  He will be missed by so many for so may reasons, the main one being is that he was a Child of God.  I say rest in peace Sam. I remember Sam from the early eighties at Ft. Sam Houston. He was down to earth and a real likeable guy. In a recent conversation, just prior to Coved 19, he told me that if I came to San Antonio, and don't come to see him- don't tell him.  Will Barlow, Ripley, Tenn. RIP my brother.

I am really going to miss you very much. You were a wonderful man. I remember the Brook Benton cassette tape that you made for me while I & Deb let us stay in your home years ago. Deborah, I pray for peace and comfort for you and your family.  I don't know what its like to loss a husband, but Sam reminds me of my dad in so many ways.   Medical Specialist, faithfully serving the Army, retired a CSM and always the life of any party..  So I know what your children must be feeling.  Life won't be the same without him, but look to God for comfort.  God knows your suffering, God feels your pain, God knows you better than you know yourself.  He will help you through this. Sam, you will be more than just missed.  We had the honor of getting to know you and your family, although we shared the same street with you, it always felt it was more than that to us, not just a friend, a brother. A Son, My Sampson, The Champ. I named you Sampson because when I was carrying you it felt like you were building a city inside my stomach. I would often say Lord what is this baby doing. You were so busy. When you were born you were a big baby.  As I looked at your perfect round face and those big hands all balled up, I said to you,  you are going to grow up to be someone big and strong and you are going to rule the world and steal the hearts of many. Guess what Champ? Your mama got them all right. As you began to crawl you would pull the baby bed clean across the floor. So me and your daddy nicknamed you Champ cause you were so strong.  You spoiled me so much even spoiled got jealous. There will never be words made to express the pain I feel having to see you go, but you belong to God, He only loaned you to me for a little while. I will continue to cherish every moment God allowed me to have with you and you with me.  All of me went with you, but one day we will see each other again. Oh! what a time we are going to have.
