

A veteran of World War II, he spent a total of 39 years in military service. He was awarded the Legion of Merit and Meritorious Service Medals for exceptional meritorious conduct and service to his country. Upon retirement, he and his wife, Devene Ray Walker of Amarillo, Texas, spent 25 years living at Buchanan Dam, Texas. An active member of the First Baptist Church of Kingsland, Texas, he was a Deacon and long-time Bible teacher. Upon the death of his wife after 64 years of marriage, he moved to Independence Hill Retirement Resort in San Antonio, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his father, Samuel Andrew Walker, Sr.; mother, Essie Turner; sister, Lena Mae Joseph; and wife, Devene Walker.
He is survived by sisters, Viola Brohlin of Amarillo, Texas, and Rosie Amon of Fort Pierce, Florida; brother, Jack Walker and wife June of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; daughter, Beverly Holod and husband Bob of New Ulm, Texas; son, Mark Walker and wife Laura of Hollywood Park, Texas; grandchildren, Brian Stone and wife Holly of Katy, Texas, Brandon Stone of San Marcos, Texas, Michelle Rowe and husband Chad of League City, Texas, Mark Walker, Jr. of Ft. Worth, Texas; and great-grandchildren, Andrew Rowe and Lauren Rowe of League City, Texas, and Julia Stone and Samuel Stone of Katy, Texas.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, April 9, 2012, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
