Sam is survived by his wife, Craig; son Ben (Maureen) of Rockport, Texas, grandson Gene, a handsome fellow; and son Shelton (Ruth) of West Fork, Arkansas.
Sam was a devoted husband and wonderful father whose love and presence shaped every aspect of his family’s life. His easy laugh and affection brought lightness to those around him, and he never missed a chance to offer encouragement and a kind word.
Some of the family’s cherished memories were made on sun-filled trips to the beaches of VA, NC, and TX. These were days filled with the joy of each other, sand, ice cream, and laughter. And with Sam, there was always ice cream and laughter.
Later, Sam and Craig’s adventures expanded overseas: Sam’s career took him to many international destinations, including the Middle East, where they lived for several years. The family visited for a thrilling and camel-filled time in Luxor and Cairo, Egypt.
Sam will be lovingly remembered for his warmth, humor, his striking antique clocks, his sweet tooth, and most of all, the unwavering love he gave to his family and friends.
