

She attended San Antonio schools, graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1937. In 1940 she received her B.M. Degree from Incarnate Word College. For the next four years Sammye taught school in west Texas - Melvin and Garden City - and in Corpus Christi.
In 1944 she returned to San Antonio and was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. - Commercial Dept. She retired in 1981 with 37 years' service. Sammye was an active member of the First Baptist Church for over 50 years. She was also an active member of the Pilot Club of S.A., and the Telephone Co., Pioneers.
She is survived by her brother and wife, Richard David and Michelle Lockhart of Tucson, AZ; nephews, Charles M. Lockhart and wife, Karen of San Antonio, Douglas R. Lockhart and wife, Ellen of La Vernia; great niece, Christine Mims and husband, Matthew of Fort Worth, TX.; great nephews, David Lockhart of San Antonio TX., and Sam Lockhart of La Vernia, TX; four great great nephews and two great great nieces.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 6, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Porter Loring Chapel.
