Jane was an excellent student, beginning with her first year in school. She continued that excellence throughout her school years and became class valedictorian of the class of 1939 of Roma High School, Roma Texas.
She received a business scholarship to Rice University, but turned it down to attend Edinburg College to study Elementary Education. She became an Elementary School teacher and taught in small ranch communities in the Rio Grande Valley area. She then moved to San Antonio, Texas, but due to changes in the requirements for Texas Teacher Certification, she decided to give up teaching.
At the age of 41, she enrolled in nursing school. She was employed as a nurse at Baptist Memorial Hospital from 1963 to 1983. Upon her retirement in 1983, she continued being active by volunteer work and serving as a foster grandparent providing respite care to chronically ill children Any Baby Can. She also did work for the Census Bureau from 1960 and 1970.
The most important attribute she had was her faithfulness to God. Her prayers and praises never ceased. Jane read the entire bible three times and she always told us how important it was to read God's word and to be mindful that Jesus is coming soon.
She was greatly loved by her grandchildren and great grandchildren; for they would always call upon her for her prayers, for they knew that there was power in her prayer. To her children, she was a loving mother who gave encouragement and never ending love. She was loved so much and will greatly be missed by her family. She was an inspiration by the life she lead and her faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. The memory of her laughter, joy, and smile will forever live in our hearts.
Jane is survived by her six children: Gilberto and his wife, Josie of Chicago, IL, Thelma Yolanda and her husband, Jaime, Humberto and his wife, Grace, Roberto and his wife, Ellie of Benbrook, TX, Juan Rolando and his wife, Li of Yukon, OK, and Cynthia Ann and her husband, Albert; nineteen grandchildren: thirty one great grandchildren, and two great-great grandsons. She is also survived by her sister, Venus Martinez and her husband, Jose of Bakersfield, CA, and numerous nieces and nephews in Bakersfield, CA, Rio Grande Valley, and Dallas, TX.
The family would like to thank Hope Hospice of New Braunfels, Texas for their wonderful care and support. A special thanks to Sarah Vines, RN for her dedication, compassion and care.
