A longtime resident of Chestertown, Maryland, Sandy was known and loved by many. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, John Alexander Conkling, and is survived by her daughter Melinda Conkling Hart (Ed) of San Antonio, son John Alexander Conkling, Jr. (Tavia) of Austin, Texas, and her beloved grandchildren – Max, Edward, Julia and Jack.
Sandy grew up in Seaford, Delaware, before attending and graduating from Washington College where she met her future husband and the love of her life, John. They made Chestertown their home and were active members of the community. Sandy loved spending time with her family and friends – especially get togethers with her “Lunch Bunch.” She made frequent walks around town with Honey, her constant companion, and enjoyed working in her flower gardens. Her crabcake recipe is legendary and she found great joy in cheering on her children (and then her grandchildren’s) sporting events. She was always ready to go on a trip or play a round of cards. She will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025 at 2:00 pm in the First Church Building (105 N. Mill Street) of Christ First United Methodist Church with a reception following at the Chester River Yacht & Country Club. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at the Forum at Lincoln Heights (San Antonio, Texas) who helped care for Sandy.
