Sarah Lillian Melgaard, a very loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother went to be with the Lord May 28, 2012. Mom was born November 16, 1922 in Goldthwaite, Texas. She married Baxter Melgaard, her one and only sweetheart November 18, 1940 and shared 65 years of marriage before he passed on February 8, 2006. Mother was one of those very special people who always put others before herself, devoting much of her time and energy to her three children, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was blessed with many wonderful neighbors whom she loved like her own family. Because of her independant spirit, mother continued to live in her and dad's home until her final days. Mother was a very devoted Christian and was one of the founders of Helotes Baptist Church where she was a member for over 50 years. While raising her family she worked as a substitute teacher in the Northside ISD for 14 years. After retiring she enjoyed traveling with Baxter throughout the United States and Canada in their motor home, keeping a diary of their adventures together. Mom always enjoyed family get togethers where she and dad would marvel at the family they had created, watching it grow as grandchildren and great-grandchildren were added to their family. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 65 years, Baxter P. Melgaard, her dear daughter Diane and sister, Jo McBrayer. She is survived by her three children, Carolyn Prell Zurovec and husband Pat, Andrew Wesley Melgaard and wife Judy, Caren Leigh White and husband Jack. Grandchildren Tammy Romo, Duane Zurovec and wife Sarah, Jason Zurovec and wife Kelly, Amber C. Melgaard, Amy C. Melgaard, Sarah L. White, Kristen L. White, Jaclyn P. White, Abby D. White and great-grandchildren Baleigh, Blaik and Brenton Romo and Katelyn, Davis and Trevor Zurovec. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 1, 2012 at Helotes First Baptist Church. Interment will be at 3:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park. The family wishes to thank her dear friends and neighbors who were always so attentive and kind, you know who you are.
