

Sarah was born into a sharecropper family where she learned the value of education and hard work. From humble beginnings, she went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana Tech and a master’s from Texas Christian University. After a long career in quality assurance at General Dynamics, she enjoyed fulfilling retirement.
Sarah taught herself to play piano and passed her love of music on to her daughters. She enjoyed travel, especially her frequent trips to Hawaii. She excelled in crafts, including collecting and painting statues of angels. She was an avid gardener with particular skill in growing roses, hibiscus and bougainvillea. She adopted several stray cats. Her greatest passion was caring for her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Col. David Tawater, USAF; first husband Dr. Kenneth Royer (d. 1995); brother Billy Walker and sister Joy Broussard. Sarah is survived by her two daughters, Kara Royer and Dr. Cassandre Royer, and three grandchildren, Aaron Williams, Courtney Long and Nathaniel Crow.
The family will receive friends at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, July 1, 2024, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
