He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Scott Payne and Helen Royer Payne. Scott is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Reed Payne; daughter, Melissa Reed Brown (Jeffery), son, Douglas Scott Payne (Rhonda); daughter, Kristin L. Pruitt (Darrell); grandchildren, Christopher, Chelsea, Matthew, Caitlin, Trevor, Cody and Kendall; great-grandchildren, Tuff, Boone and one more on the way.
