He was preceded in death by his first wife of 51 years, Dolores R. Ortiz and his second wife of 14 years, Jane Ortiz.
He is survived by his sons, Frank Ortiz of San Antonio, and Robert Ortiz and wife Sharif of San Antonio; daughters, Mary Boland and husband Tom of Buda, Rebecca Lewey and husband Neal of Spring Branch, and Barbara Horst and husband Tony of Austin; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, two sisters; surviving step-children from his marriage to Jane Sanchez Ortiz, Joseph R. Sanchez and wife Olivia, Mary Balli and husband Ignacio, Jose Gustavo Sanchez, Manuel Sanchez, and Yolanda Clifton and husband Michael.
