

Sgt. Keith Allen Kurtz, age 51, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Arthur Kurtz. Keith is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Stephanie Burke Kurtz; his mother, Donna Janssen; sister, Brenda Kurtz Yasko and husband, Jeff; nieces, Kimberly and Ashley; godson, Jeremy Tijerina and his wife, Brooke Harper Tijerina; his cousin/hunting buddy, Clint Rodgers and his wife, Donna; and his fur baby, a Golden Retriever named Ruckus.
He graduated from Floresville High School, from the San Antonio Police Academy on April 10, 1993 with Class 92B and Wayland Baptist University receiving a Bachelors of Science degree with honors in May of 2003. Keith was with East Patrol for 20 years of his 24-year career with the San Antonio Police Department. He worked with B shift for 6 years and then was promoted to Detective where he worked with Central Property Crime for 4 years. He also worked with S.A.F.F.E. (San Antonio Fear Free Environment) assisting neighborhoods to develop a better environment and a safe community for their residents.
Outside of his work, Keith was passionate about fishing and hunting and was an avid outdoorsman. Whether it be deer, duck, or quail; Keith and his hunting buddy, Ruckus never missed a season. Keith was instrumental in helping his Godson, Jeremy, achieve his dream of being a Naval Aviator. He was a devoted husband and known to be the solution oriented go-to guy in the family and will be missed dearly by all who knew him. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 9, 2017 from 4:00pm to 8:00 pm at Porter Loring Mortuary.
