Born on October 9, 1943, in Nowata, Oklahoma, Sharon was the youngest daughter of Minnie Juanita Howell Mattix. Deeply compassionate from an early age, she was inspired by her favorite author and physician, Dr. Thomas Anthony Dooley III, to pursue a life of service in nursing. She proudly earned her Associate of Arts Degree in Nursing and devoted 20 years of her life to caring for newborns and children as a neonatal nurse—a vocation that reflected her tender heart and gentle nature. Her family lovingly called her the “baby whisperer” for her remarkable ability to soothe even the fussiest of babies.
Sharon is survived by her loving husband of over 30 years, Dr. Alfred Phillips; her children Veronica Beiser, Dianna Parker (Kevin Parker), Daniel Phillips (Rachel Dickerson), and David Phillips (Emily Diaz); her sisters Dorothy Hugo, Sandra Foster, and Linda Ditto (Rick Ditto); and her beloved grandchildren Lillien Gilbert, Olivia Parker, Caleb Parker, Andrew Phillips, Alexander Phillips, and Lydia Phillips, all of whom fondly called her “Monie.” She is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother and siblings Mary Ellen Ladd, Larey Gene Mattix, and Gary Dale Mattix.
Sharon’s life was marked by her unwavering faith in Jesus and her loving, generous nature. She was recently baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church, drawing inspiration from St. Teresa of Calcutta. She lived her faith daily through compassion, empathy, and acts of kindness—especially through her favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which reflected her lifelong devotion to helping children.
A natural storyteller, Sharon loved to share tales from her life—often adding a playful touch of embellishment—which always made for an unforgettable story and plenty of laughter.
Affectionately known as Aunt Sue, Sharon opened her home with love, welcoming her nieces, nephews, and her children’s friends on weekends and during summers creating memories filled with warmth, laughter, and joy.

Sharon’s gentle spirit, steadfast faith, and legacy of love will continue to live on in the lives she touched—especially those of her family. We are comforted by the words Sharon herself shared in one of her final conversations:
“I will see you again in Heaven.”
