Sharon Elizabeth Sheriff, age 77, was reunited with her eternal family in heaven on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at 1:14 am. Sharon was born on January 29, 1946, to Naomi Johnson Wade and Calvin Wayne Wade in Memphis, TN where her father was stationed with the United States Navy. Sharon graduated summa cum laude in 1964 from Dumas High School in Dumas, TX.
She met the love of her life, Robert Bertram Sheriff, at the Baylor Freshman Welcome Party in August 1964. Six months later, they had their first date to attend the Baylor Symphony on campus. On October 22, 1965, he proposed marriage high above the banks of the Brazos River in Waco, Texas with a full moon overhead. They married in the Tidwell Bible Chapel on Baylor University campus on May 28,1966.
Sharon graduated 15th in her class at Baylor with a degree in English in 1968. Upon graduation, she followed Bob in his career with Cigna Insurance to Philadelphia, PA. In 1974 they were transferred to San Antonio, TX where Sharon began a career with North East Independent School District, teaching English.
In 1979, Lee High School offered Sharon a job as a counselor, contingent upon completing her Master’s degree. She attended night school at UTSA and graduated with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. In 1985, Sharon was promoted to serve as the Crisis Counselor for the entire Northeast Independent School District at the Alternative High School. In 1990, Sharon joined a group of psychiatrists as a licensed professional counselor. While in private practice, she provided professional counseling to parents dealing with out-of-control teenagers, teenagers dealing with suicide ideations, couples giving up on marriage, Christians giving up on God, and to everyday people looking for purpose in their lives. Sharon was a gifted counselor and confidant.
Sharon and Bob’s 57-year marriage was centered around their Christian faith and living out their faith through action. They built lifelong relationships as members of Trinity Baptist Church from 1973 until 2007 and at Woodland Church since June 2007.
Sharon was the consummate cheerleader in life, telling people to get out of themselves and to focus their attention toward helping others. She was a gourmet cook and loved to entertain and bake for friends and family. In 2012, she turned her love of cooking into a ministry at Woodland Church, with a cooking class for young women that became the Wonder Women of Woodland.
Sharon leaves behind a legacy of love and the countless number of people who have been touched by her kindness. For eleven years, from June 2009 until COVID hit in March 2020, Sharon was up early every Monday morning baking fresh baked pies, cakes, and desserts for the church staff meetings at Woodland Church. Jud Edwards was a huge fan of Sharon’s baking along with the rest of the staff.
She was preceded in death by her parents Naomi Johnson Wade and Calvin Wade; and brother Michael Wade. Sharon is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Robert B. Sheriff, daughter, Kristin Sheriff Strawn and husband Jay; son, Brett Sheriff; grandchildren, Kenneth Strawn, Savannah Strawn, and Jack Sheriff; sister Barbara Wade and husband Randall Roberts; nieces and nephews: Justin Jacobs and family, Janel Voth and family, Scott Sheriff and family, Ronnie Marx and family; brothers-in-law William Sheriff and wife Selma; and Richard Sheriff and wife Kathie.

Literally thousands of prayers have been prayed for Sharon and over 500 cards and letters have been received over the last 39 months. She has answered God’s call to come home to join His heavenly choir.
