

Born on March 19, 1921 to Minnie Klaff Harris and Archie J. Harris in Norfolk, Virginia, Shirley grew up with her younger sister, Betty. After graduating from Maury High School, Shirley attended Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland.
She moved to Washington, D. C. in 1942 to take a job with the Office of Strategic Services, the wartime intelligence agency of the United States.
She first met Samuel Barker while in Washington and they married on December 13, 1942. When World War II ended, they moved to Chevy Chase, Maryland and began raising a family. Shirley was an enthusiastic participant in many of the cultural and political activities of the era and loved to travel, especially to Europe.
Shirley Barker is survived by her three loving children, Susan, Jonathan and David Barker, her grandchildren, Joshua and Nicholas Barker, and her sister, Betty Zetlin.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 14 at 4:00 p.m. in the Azalea Room at The Towers, One Towers Park Lane, San Antonio.
