

Shirley D. (Vincent) Cook passed away peacefully on December 17, 2013 in Katy, Texas, where she recently moved after living many years at Fort Sam Houston, Windcrest, and the Army Residence Community. She was 88.
Shirley was born on January 8, 1925 in Ogden, Utah, to Colonel Carl J. Dockler and his wife Mildred. As an Army daughter, she accompanied her family to postings throughout the United States. She attended Mary Baldwin College, and graduated from the University of Oklahoma, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi.
She was devoted to her family and friends, and supported Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and school programs for many years. Shirley was active in the Windcrest United Methodist Church, and the ARC Angels. She enjoyed travelling, square and line dancing, and entertaining as a part of reviews at the Residence Community.
Shirley was predeceased by husbands, LTC Edward J. Vincent and LTC William B. Cook, Jr.
She is survived by her brother COL (Ret) Gordon Dockler and sister-in law Constance Dockler of Newport, New Hampshire; daughter, Leslie J. Simich and husband Barry Simich of Carmel, Indiana; sons, COL (Ret) Gordon S. Vincent, MD and wife Cate, of Temple, Texas, COL (Ret) Mark Vincent and wife Nancy of Katy, Texas, COL (Ret) Dale Vincent, MD and wife COL (Ret) Judy Vincent, MD, of Kailua, Hawaii; eight grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Shirley made life-long friends wherever she went, and her smile warmed the hearts of everyone.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 2, 2014 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
