Shirley Fontanos Manuel

Shirley Fontanos Manuel was 63 years old when she passed away peacefully and painlessly surround by loved ones on Monday, November 27, 2017, at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, TX. She was born on October 18, 1954, in Manila, Philippines to Marcos Fontanos and Lucrecia Polendey. Shirley was the youngest of 7 children. Shirley attended Far Eastern University and graduated from Family Clinic School of Nursing. She then received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Manila Central University.

While she was studying at Family Clinic, she met Segundo Manuel and later was married on September 21, 1981. Together they had their first two of three children, Kristine and Katherine in the Philippines. She then moved to the United States and had her last child, Noel. The rest of her family joined her in the United States several years later. Shirley thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved family road trips across the country to visit her sisters, nieces and nephews. She loved fishing trips, eating out, and laughing. She became friends with her children’s friends. She was definitely the cool mom in the group and even was close enough to some to become their “second” mom. She even became a fan of motorsports attending Formula 1 and Sports Car racing at the Circuit of the Americas. The number one thing she loved was spending time with her niece, Kamea, and nephew, Preston.

Shirley worked for Methodist Transplant Specialty Hospital for 29 years. Throughout those years she made a tremendous amount of friends, many of whom became lifelong friends.

The reach of her laughter, humor, kindness and love spread far and wide.

Shirley is preceded by her parents Marcos Fontanos and Lucrecia Polendey; and her siblings Marcos P. Fontanos JR. and Charito P. Fontanos. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Segundo, daughter Kristine Seebeck married to Bruce and their son, Preston; daughter Katherine and her daughter Kamea; son Noel; Shirley’s siblings Marilyn, Evelyn, Rose and Arturo; and numerous nephews and nieces and friends.

Please join us to Shirley’s celebration of life. A memorial and service will take place this Friday, December 1, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, TX, 78218. All family and friends are welcome to attend from 4pm - 9 pm. The service is from 7pm - 9pm.
