Shirley Schwethelm O'Quinn

Shirley was born on January 26, 1936 in Comfort, Texas to Chester and Julia Schwethelm. After High School she attended Schreiner College and Trinity University where she received her Masters of Education. She taught at St. Luke’s Episcopal and Smith Elementary then later became a housewife. Shirley married Judge Michael B. O’Quinn March 31, 1967 in San Antonio, Texas. She was a loving parent to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed returning to their ranch in Comfort on the weekends. Her greatest loves beyond her family were dogs and the San Antonio Spurs.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

She is survived by her son Chester Hurst of Comfort, Texas and daughter Elaine Griffin of San Antonio, four grandchildren, Jennifer and husband Gino Cussimanio, Melissa and husband John Huebener, Will Griffin, and Shelbi Emmons, four great grandchildren Alex, Taylor, Allie and Grant, one brother A.C. and wife Marilyn Schwethelm, nephew Otto Schwethelm, nieces Julia Holmes, Susie Schwethelm and Jean Schwethelm, and her beloved four legged friend Casey. The family is very thankful to her long time caretaker Bertha Villarreal.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Comfort Baptist Church 104 Amber Drive Comfort, Texas 78013 to celebrate Shirley’s life. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to The Animal Defense League, the Comfort Public Library or a charity of your choice.
