To Shirley and her family. I enterred a memory, however I did not see it when I was reading the others. I won't forget riding the van with her each morning and laughing with her on the way home from Austin each day. My nickname for her was Chistine, like the Chistine and Coach on the TV series, because she was always flying off to Dallas to be with her great guy that she was going to be with finally and for the rest of her life. And her car in the garage she called Princess, as well as her family. She talked to me so many times about her Mother and Dad and the things she rememberred that would lead her through her life to come. A devine woman and a great loss to all. When you think of her, its always with love. We will all see her soon. She will be waiting with open arms and a beautiful smile. I'm at a loss for words and terribly saddened. I got on-line this evening to look for a long lost friend...someone I cherished for so many years while in San Antonio only to find that I can no longer tell her again how dear she was to me. It was delightful to know Shirley. She was so warm and nice. Working with her did not seem like work at all but a friendly conversation with a good person.

I will miss her greatly. We worked together with setting up audio-visual equipment for her meetings. She always took the time to ask how my kids were doing and how the baby was doing. She always had a smile on her face. It will always be on my mind and in my heart.

Shirley was such a blessing. She was so sweet, so positive, always willing to be there for people in need. Our friendship has blessed me in so many ways. I would look up and she would be stopping by just to say hi, to share our triumphs and frustrations, to just share each other. We worked on a project together and became friends almost immediately. We were acquaintances before that, and I was so happy to get to work with her on our project. I feel so blessed to have had the wonderful opportunity to know her. We offer prayers of Thanksgiving for the life and professional achievements of Shirley Rendon. She worked constantly to help others in many ways. Her advocacy and work helped improve services for thousands of people in our State.

I too just heard of the passing away of Shirley. She was a very dear and sweet person. I worked with her up until Dec. 2007, and she was a great pleasure to be around. I will miss her dearly.

So much has been written about Shirley's work with Children's Mental Health issues. I too, had the privilege of working with her in years past through TXMHMR. Shirley impressed me as a person sincere in her efforts to help others. I am sorry to hear of her passing and for the loss her family must be feeling. Shirley and I met in high school and looking at her picture, she is just as pretty and graceful as then. I did not keep in touch, but when, her and my friend, Leonore, came into town, I had the opportunity to see her. My condolences to the family and her fiance, Raul. It is wonderful how the Lord allowed you to cross paths again. My prayers will be with you and Shirley.

I just found out today (3/3) about the passing of someone special. Though I only knew Shirley for a short time, she did become a friend…I am sorry that I missed Shirley's memorial service this past Sunday…I wish I had the opportunity to meet her family. I met Shirley in the Van Pool and I loved listening to her speak--she was full of wisdom…she had a beautiful smile and was a kind and loving lady…I am blessed to have had known her. We had some wonderful laughs on the van pool. I will never forget her.

I am sorry I missed Shirley's memorial service and the opportunity to meet the family. I worked with Shirley at TDMHMR until I retired in 2002, but we kept in touch. Shirley touched many lives across the state as an advocate for mental health. I am blessed to have known her infectious smile and gracious personality. I know many people in Austin will miss her. I know I am one!

I only knew Shirley for a short time (5 years) but I fell in love with her smile right away... oh she loved those spurs. When I saw her driving that BIG van to work, I would laugh and think oh man she is so small to be driving such a BIG vehicle.. Shirley was a wonderful person and will be missed dearly. She really took my sweet potato pie to the depths. My deepest sympathy to the entire family. Shirley is watching over us now with a Spurs flag in one hand and a loving smile.

My Heart and Prayers are with the Rendon Family. Shirley is still smiling and will be with the guardian angel and looking over all of us. I know, I have not seen her for a long time, but I can see her beautiful smile and she's still beautiful.

I'm so sad for the Rendon family, especially Joyce, who as a classmate of mine at JFK was such a big & happy part of my high school days. It was so good seeing both Joyce & Shirley at our 40th Reunion. What fun we had. Joyce, I'm so very sorry for your loss. Shirely we will miss you. We will miss your devotion to the spurs and good food and traveling to interesting places and meeting interesting people. We will miss your request for the HHSC report at the beginning of each month. We will miss your laugh and your smile, we will miss you.

I have very special memories of Shirley and her love of life. She will be missed by many, as she gave so much of herself to so many.

I was Shirley's co-worker from way down to the hall. I didn't know her all that well, which is something that I now view as a loss after listening to the many tributes. What I did see in her is that rare individual who made everything better around her, who made grace seem effortless, whose boundless compassion was never condescending. If we who knew her have lost something very important in her passing, we gained something very important by knowing her.

I was very saddened to hear of the death of Shirley. She will always hold a special place in my heart. Shirley and I were very good friends in high school and I have many wonderful memories of her. She was a very caring, fun-loving, graceful and intelligent person and I know that her family will miss her. May God help you as you deal with your loss. My prayers go out to you.

What a wonderul woman. I rode to Austin daily with her on our comute and shared tears, laughs, stories, adventuries My nickname for her was Christina, from the sitecom Coach. I even called her sweetheart Coach, as she was always jetting off to see him. I wished I could have been there to see that she was not feeling well and we all come have taken her to the hospital. I am so sad. I would have done anything for her. She had the most greatest laugh and smile. The is truly heartbreaking. I will miss her so much. We just taked last week. I first met Shirley as a 9th Grader @ J.F. Kennedy High School.We were 2 young girls starting on a new phase of life. Little did we know that we'd become Lifelong Friends!Even though I moved to California we always managed to keep in touch.Even got her to come for a visit.Shirley was a Wonderful friend whom I loved very much. I met Shirley during my college years at SAC. We traveled to South America together and it was a great experience. She was a bridesmaid at our wedding and was a beautiful and wonderful person. Our son just passed away in December, so I know the pain and grief that you are experiencing at this time.

Please accept my utmost sympathies for your loss. I was fortunate enough to work with Shirley at DSHS. In fact, together we were ?The Shirleys.? Las tocayas. She was at one end of the hallway; I was at the other ? like bookends. We often swapped advice and stories. Whenever she talked about her family, it was always with great warmth and love. She kept me updated during her nephew?s hard-fought campaign for city council and she talked about how she always had to have fruit on hand for when the little ones would visit ?Aunt Shirley.? I would tease her when she would get yet another lovely bunch of flowers from her ?admirer.? So this week, I lost my tocaya. And we all lost a very, very special person.

I had the honor to have been a close team member the past three years with Shirley. Her wonderful spirit had a calming effect on all who came in contact with her and was a blessing for both clients and staff. She had a way of imparting value and honoring all individuals. Texas is a better state because of Shirley. Those with mental illness, inparticularly children, are better served and their rights protected because of the work she did. I will miss her.

As a colleague of Shirley Rendt the Texas Department of State Health Services for a number of years, I will always remember her warmth and genuineness of personality, the desire that we both shared to help others less fortunate, and our conversations about the San Antonio Spurs. I thank God for her life and the opportunity the Lord gave me to call her "friend". When she called me several weeks ago, our telephone conversation was as if I had not retired and was back at the office and still sharing life and work assignments with her. My wife, Cheryl, joins me in sending our deepest sympathy and regards to her family and loved ones.

i met shirley about 19 years ago. i worked for children's services when it was a pilot project. from the moment i met her, i loved her. she made me laugh, and was so generous with her time and wisdom. there are no words to tell you how much i will miss her and how much she taught me about life, people, work and plants. she was a great blessing in my life! please accept my heartfelt condolensces for your loss! she lived 1 Corinthians 13:4-13.
