

Shirley S. Stampes went to be with the Lord on September 16th 2016. A sincere patriot of her country, Shirley held a lifelong appreciation for education, beauty of the natural word, pets, travel and social gatherings. She has been married to Mr. Bennett Stampes for over 61 years and both are devout Christians with membership at Shearer Hills Baptist Church.
She was born in New Town, Texas on August 11th 1923 and was reared in Tulsa, OK. Shirley graduated high school in 1940. Shirley worked hard as a secretary at Douglas Bomber Plant to save money to attend college at Baylor University. At Baylor, Shirley carried heavy class hours, while working 4 hours a day. She was able to accumulated 3 years of credit with an “A” average in two years. She then took a job at USAA Insurance Company and moved to San Antonio where she met and married Bennet H. Stampes at First Baptist Church in November of 1954. Shirley later graduated from Trinity University with her Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Psychology through a fellowship granted by her employer USAA in 1975. After graduating she became an Interviewer and Counselor for USAA until her retirement in 1986. After retirement, Shirley and Bennett did house and pet sitting all over the world. The couple didn’t charge for this service and considered this an opportunity to explore new locations and make new friends. They were able to visit Europe, Asia, Canada, Hawaii, and have been to at least 30 states in the United States.
Shirley was also an avid reader and always attended a local Baptist church. She made it a point to meet her neighbors and thoroughly enjoyed attending local events and sightseeing in the area. Shirley and Bennet were generous to their friends, church and many charities with their gifts of support.
Visitation for Shirley S. Stampes will take place at Sunset North Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday the 19th of September, 2016. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday the 20th of September , 2016 at Shearer Hills Baptist Church, 12615 San Pedro, San Antonio, TX 78216, with a luncheon to follow. Burial will take Place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Friday the 23rd of September, 2016, promptly at 2:30 p.m.
