Shizuko Miyagi Budzowski, lovingly known as Suzy to her family and friends, passed away on Tuesday June 23, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 86. She was born on September 18, 1939, in Okinawa, Japan.
Suzy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thaddeus Budzowski; her mother, Haruko Miyagi; her father; and her parents-in-law, Sophie and Ted Budzowski.
She is survived by her loving daughters, June Nicholson, Tina Budzowski-Pegram, and Arlene Budzowski Coultress. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Darryl Pegram Jr., Tyler Nicholson, Michael Pegram, Kianna Coultress, and Gabriel Coultress; and her treasured great-grandchildren: Alexander Nicholson, Evelyn Nicholson, Darryl Pegram III, and Thomas Nicholson.
Suzy was a survivor of the Battle of Okinawa, a testament to her remarkable strength and resilience. Her life was shaped by perseverance, compassion, and an enduring love for her family.
It was love at first sight when she met the love of her life whom she married on May 8, 1963. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. After more than six decades of devotion, she is now reunited with her “honey”.
Suzy had a passion for gardening and found joy in nurturing both flowers and the people she loved. She treasured long road trips, taking in the beauty of nature, and enjoyed visiting casinos throughout the years with her husband and close friends.
Her gentle heart, quiet strength, and unwavering kindness touched everyone who knew her.
Above all else, Suzy’s greatest joy was her family. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who lovingly called her Oba-chan, the Japanese word for grandmother. Nothing brought her greater happiness than spending time with them and watching her family grow through the generations.
Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace and reunited with her beloved husband. Suzy will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
