

Simon Guereca Jr., a man of unwavering courage and boundless love, passed away peacefully in his hometown of San Antonio, TX, on August 11, 2024. Born on October 25, 1964, Simon's life was a testament to service, family, and the joy of shared meals and memories.
Simon proudly graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1983, a foundation that set the stage for his remarkable 20-year career in the United States Marine Corps. As a Military Police member, Simon distinguished himself through his leadership and dedication, serving as a Military Police Instructor and a revered Drill Instructor. His commitment to excellence was evident in his supervision of operations across various sections, from K-9 units to Traffic Enforcement. His expertise extended to coordinating law enforcement efforts with foreign allies and ensuring the safety of VIPs during deployments.
In his final duty station, Simon's leadership as a Team Leader of CBIRF and his role in emergency operations showcased his ability to respond to crises with precision and care. His responsibilities included safeguarding against WMD and chemical-biological attacks, and he played a crucial part in the bio-sampling operations during the Anthrax attacks of November 2001. Simon's legacy includes establishing protocols that continue to be used by the Department of Justice and the FBI today.
After his distinguished military service, Simon transitioned to the civilian sector, where he continued to impact lives through his work with the US State Department and Olgoonik Solutions, LLC. As a Program Manager, he was instrumental in rebuilding Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense Program and enhancing emergency management and disaster response capabilities.
Beyond his professional achievements, Simon was a man who found joy and love in the simple pleasures of life. He was a loving husband to his wife, Gina, and a dedicated father to Sal and Gabby, embracing the role of father-in-law to Fernando Mosqueda with open arms. Simon cherished the time he spent with his family, whether it was barbecuing on weekends, exploring new restaurants, or completing projects at home. His love language was food, and he ensured everyone around him was well-fed and happy.Simon's interests reflected his warm and inclusive spirit. He loved attending conventions and sporting events with his son Sal, engaging in meaningful conversations over coffee with his daughter Gabby, and tackling the honey-do list with his brown-eyed girl, Gina. His ability to maintain connections with former Marines and friends spoke to his selfless and loving nature.
Simon's life was one of service, not just in his career but in his every action. He embodied the words of Ronald Reagan: "Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, The Marines don’t have that problem". Simon gave abundantly, from his courageous service to his nation to the selfless love he poured into his family and community.
Those who knew Simon will remember him as a courageous, selfless, and loving man. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. Simon Guereca Jr.'s story is one of a life well-lived, a life that has left an indelible mark on this world. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Simon’s name to Semper Fi & America’s Fund through TheFund.org. A charity which supports wounded Marines, Veterans and their families to live independent lives after sustaining life changing injuries or critical illnesses.
