Simon Perez Hernandez, age 87, passed Wednesday, September 29, 2004.
During his service in the Army, he was highly decorated being awarded the Bronze Star Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Philippines Defense Medal, Korea War Service Medal, a Presidential Unit Citation, as well as a Certificate of Appreciation on the Occasion of Retirement from active service.
Simon retired with the rank of Sgt. First Class in 1965. After retirement, he worked at the University of Texas at El Paso as a Campus Police Officer, then at the US-Mexico Border with Customs and Immigration Service.
Simon was preceded in death by his wife, Julia in 2003. He is survived by his brother, Thomas Hernandez and his wife, Dora of Edinburgh; sisters, Angelita Lolotta of San Antonio; Maria H. Gonzales and her husband, Lawrence A. and Juanita H. Gonzales; step-sons, Frank and Charles Pena and several nieces and nephews.
