Sonya was born on October 2, 1934 in Shamrock, Texas to Cyril and Glondon Youngblood. She was known for her generous, loving heart, eccentric sense of humor, and she touched the lives of all who knew her.
Throughout her life, Sonya found joy in Jesus, counseling children and spending time with her family. She especially loved Halloween, knitting and traveling, and her greatest joy was spending time with her grand and great grandchildren.
Sonya is survived by son, Rickey Newton and wife, Joanne, son Randy Newton, daughter Kimberly Sharp and husband, Richard, grandchildren Shae Newton, Reavis Newton, Kacee Harvey and husband, Nathan, Lexie Schrader, Chelsea Anderson and husband, Andrew, Corey Newton, Shelby Taylor, Victoria Newton, Carter Sharp and wife, Jillian, and 6 great grandchildren and one more expected to arrive in October. She was preceded in death by her husband, Barney Newton and parents, Cyril and Glondon Youngblood.
Those who knew Sonya will remember her as “Nanee”, “Grandma Fruit Loop”, or “Q-Tip”, and she wouldn’t have it any other way. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, joy, and rubber duckies that will continue through the lives of those she loved.
A graveside service will be held on September 5, 2026 at 11 AM at Rose Hill Cemetery in Blooming Grove, Texas. If you like to send flowers, please direct them to Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home, Corsicana, Texas 75110.
