Sam was born on August 31, 1987, in Long Beach, California, to Huort Lay Phy and the late Bentsen Ear. From an early age, Sam had a natural curiosity about how things worked. His inquisitive mind, determination, and love of learning would become defining qualities throughout his life.
He earned an Associate of Science degree in Computer and Electronics Engineering Technology from ITT Technical Institute. Sam built a reputable career as a Senior Technical Support Engineer at Palo Alto Networks. He was respected for his intelligence, patience, reliability, and dedication. Sam took great pride in his work and approached every challenge with professionalism, care, and a genuine desire to help others.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Sam was a man who found joy in life’s many adventures and simple pleasures. He loved traveling, hunting, and photography, often taking the time to appreciate the beauty of the world around him. He had a particular fascination with trains, reflecting his lifelong interest in engineering and movement. At home, he enjoyed baking his own bread. He had a special fondness for Wonder Bread—a simple preference that brought a smile to those who knew him best.
Sam is survived by his mother, Huort Lay Phy; his siblings, Rodrake Ea, Rasmey Ear, Rathanak Ear, Waddana Ear, Sovandara Ear, and Sovanmakara Ear; his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Loraine Ea, Stephanie Kai, Phannara Pich, and Alma Ear; and his cherished nieces and nephews, Alyssa Pich, Grace Pich, Peter Pich, Amelia Ear, Ares Ear, and Ellie Reagan Ea.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bentsen Ear.
Sam’s passing leaves a deep loss in the hearts of his family, friends, and colleagues. Yet his memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration to those who loved him. His life reflected devotion to family, excellence in his profession, and a genuine appreciation for the world around him. Though his time on earth was far too brief, the impact of his life will be felt for years to come.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A visitation will take place from 12:00-3:00 PM, on Saturday, September 5, at Porter Loring Mortuary West.
