Steven graduated from high school in 1972, and enlisted in the U.S.Army that May. He served continuously until his retirement on July 5, 1991 at the rank of Sergeant First Class.
Remember me in the snow and freezing rain……… It was a cold day in Frankfurt, Germany in 1985. A General was in trouble. The weather was severe and deemed not safe to send anybody out for the rescue. Despite this decision, Staff Sgt. Acton took it upon himself to do what he felt was right and not leave a fellow soldier's life to chance. Having served most of his time in Germany and having extensive knowledge of the roads he set out to conduct the rescue of the General on his own. With God’s Grace, he found the general in the storm, ensured his safety and transported him back to the motor pool. The mission was accomplished and he returned home late that evening.
