Steven passed away on January 9, 2006 after a short yet courageous battle with cancer.
Steven was born on May 8, 1957 in Montebello, California to the late Col. Glenn T. Cox and Noma Dillenbeck Cox.
Steven loved Godzilla movies, sports, music and especially Elvis Presley.
Steven was a passionate fan of the Dallas Cowboys in a family of Washington Redskins supporters. He also loved the Spurs and always remembered the time he met George Gervin. One of the family's favorite stories revolves around Steven's insistence that he knew Mr. Gervin. As he and his brother Jeff walked by the court before a Spurs game, Steven called out, "Hey George!" Jeff was stunned to hear George reply, "Hey, Steven!"
Steven always had a twinkle in his eye for the girls, and he probably proposed to quite a few of them. Steven was an excellent athlete.
In addition to a deadly jump shot and a strong passing arm, he was a strong competitor in the Special Olympics.
Steven loved life and we are all blessed to have known him and shared his special spirit.
Although we will all miss him, we will cherish all of the wonderful times we had together.
The family would like to acknowledge all of his friends at Goodwill and the Association for Retarded Citizens ARC.
Steven was blessed to have spent many wonderful Saturdays bowling with the Special Adults of St. David's Episcopal Church as well as attending summer camp with his friends.
The family would like to recognize Steven's friends and staff members at the Heart House group home.
Recently Steven received excellent assistance from the staff of VistaCare Hospice. The Cox family is especially grateful for the support and loving care provided by Bertha Hernandez, who assisted Noma during Steven's final days.
Steven is survived by his mother, Noma Cox; sister, Victoria Ernst and husband, Patrick; brother Jeffrey and wife, Patricia; sister, Kathleen Morones and husband Alex; sister, Carrie Pitcher and husband, Jay; six nieces; four nephews; and countless friends and acquaintances.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Steven's name to St. David's Episcopal Church Special Adults program, 1300 Wiltshire, San Antonio, TX 78209, or to the ARC of Texas.
