Steven Lee Keen, a beloved husband, son, brother, and friend, passed away on December 18, 2024, succeeding his beloved father in death by just one day. He was born on August 20, 1853, in Kansas City, Missouri to Virginia and Phillip Keen. His passing at the age of 71 has left a profound void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Steven, “Steve” to those closest, was a man of adventure and spirit, always eager to explore the world around him. One of his most cherished experiences was a month-long journey to Ireland, a trip that ignited a deep love for the country and its culture. He often spoke of his dream to someday call Ireland his home, a testament to his longing for new experiences and meaningful connections.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Steve served with honor, and his time in the service shaped the man he became — disciplined, courageous, and always willing to help others. His service to his country was something he held in great esteem, and he was always quick to show his respect for those who served alongside him.
Beyond his travels and military service, Steve, in his youth, developed many affinities. During middle and high school, Steve enjoyed playing the trumpet, a passion that sparked a love of music that continued the entirety of his life. As well, Steve enjoyed science fiction media, a hobby that influenced his younger brother’s passion. Sword-collecting and video gaming also occupied much of Steve’s time, passions he held with much pride.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Marsha Keen. Steve is survived by his brother, Gary Wayne Keen (Lin); his nieces, Jessica and Ashley Keen; and numerous cousins and extended family. Though Steve is no longer with us, his spirit of adventure, his love for his family and friends, and his passion for life will never be forgotten. In the hearts of his family and friends, he will remain forever present.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2025, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
