

Steven Loy Moats of San Antonio died on Sunday, March 2022, surrounded by his family.Steven was born in Bonham, Texas, on June 7, 1959, to Jerry and Linda Moats. He graduated from W.T. White High School in Dallas, where he was a member of the 1976-77 City Championship Varsity Football team. Steve graduted from Texas Tech University in Lubbock and was a life-long, deep hearted Red Raider fan, as well as an avid college sports supporter. The final game he watched was an NCAA March Madness win by the men’s Red Raider Basketball team. “Guns Up!”
Steven’s greatest love was his family. He put family first and was deeply proud of his children, grandchildren, and extended family. Steven was active in Boy Scouts of America, and passionate about hiking and camping. He was a dedicated soccer and baseball coach for his children, and a cheering sideline fan for all their games and races.
Steven lived his faith in word and deed. He cherished many lifelong friendships from as far back as middle school, high school, college, church, and work. Steven was known for welcoming and including others, especially those who otherwise might not have been noticed. He celebrated the achievements of family and friends, and was quick to raise a glass of whisky to toast a special occasion or gathering. Steven made many long lasting friendships throughout his career in sales. He had a kind heart, filled with love, and overflowing with joy for life.
Steven is survived by his loving partner of 8 years, Tracey Mather; her children and grandchildren; his children, Bobby Moats and wife Shaina, Harrison Moats and wife Monica, and Rachel Faust and husband Matt; his mother, Linda Moats; brother, Kyle Moats and wife Deedra; sister, Quinn Moats Wrench and husband Reagan; seven grandchildren: Isabella, Josephine, Leslee, Rose, Troy, Garrett and Gideon; and his nieces and nephews, Becca, Dylan, Grace and Jake. Steven was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Leslee Harris Moats in 2013, and his father, Jerry Loy Moats in 1989.
A Memorial Service is planned for Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at 10:30 a.m., at University United Methodist Church in San Antonio.
