Sue Ellen Lewis was born to Edward Lewis and Mary Ellen White in Dunsmuir, California. Following her 1966 graduation with a degree in Journalism from Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma, Sue Ellen held positions in public relations with the U.S. Air Force, Oklahoma City Zoo, Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra, and the State of Oklahoma. From 1982 to 2004, Sue Ellen worked in a variety of public relations positions with the State of Louisiana. For the past 20 years, she continued working as a freelance writer and active community volunteer in San Antonio, Texas. Sue Ellen was well known within the community for her volunteer work and advocacy for seniors and their caregivers, serving as a member of the Bexar Area Agency on Aging Senior Advisory Committee and as chair of the Family Caregiver Coalition. Sue Ellen always will be remembered for her friendly, cheerful, and optimistic nature and her determination to remain involved with her community even as she suffered health problems in the later years of her life. She held her cats, Jackson and Ginger deeply in her heart, and they remained her friends and companions until the end of her life. Our gratitude goes to Big Jessica and Little Jessica at New Forest Estates assisted living, who cared for her and showed her friendship and affection through the last several years of her life.
