

Susan was a loving wife, devoted mother, daughter and sister. She grew up in San Antonio, attending Roosevelt High School, until graduation in 1978. She majored in Landscape Architecture at Texas Tech University, earning her BS in 1982.
Before her illness, she was employed as the Senior Landscape Architect at Adams Environmental, Inc. Prior to joining Adams Environmental in 2007, Susan was employed in the public sector at the City of San Antonio and the San Antonio River Authority. While at the City of San Antonio she managed $289 million in streets and drainage projects and was the special project manager in charge of creating the process for and managing the Edwards Aquifer Land Acquisition and Park Expansion program and the Salado and Leon Creekway Project both totaling $200 million. While at the San Antonio River Authority, she wrote the design team reports for two stretches of the San Antonio River, the Museum Reach and the Southern-Mission Reach. Susan had also served as the South Texas Chair of the American Society of Landscape Architects, served on the non-profit San Antonio Trees an organization dedicated to reforestation of urban San Antonio, worked on the first landscape ordinance for the City of San Antonio, managed several landscape improvement projects pro-bono for the Archdiocese of San Antonio, served as a Cub Scouts Webelo Scout leader, room parent for ten years and associate member of the San Antonio Conservation Society.
She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Spegar; daughter Meaghan Cooper, and sons Timothy and Brian Crane, Matthew and Michael Spegar. She is also survived by her parents, James and Carolyn Valis; and sisters, Janet Bach and Mary Feltner. She will be missed by her many, many friends and extended family members. Visitation will be held from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m., Wednesday, April 13 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
