

Susan Baker Weddington, age 69, peacefully joined the Lord on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, surrounded by her family at home. Susan was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 6, 1951, to Elaine R. Baird and Louis C. Baker. Her family moved to San Antonio when she was one. She was a 1969 graduate of Alamo Heights High School and attended Trinity University where she received a Bachelor of Communications in 1983. During her working career, Susan and her husband started several small businesses. Later, she was Chief of Staff for Texas State Representative Frank Corte. She served as Republican Party of Texas Chair from 1997 to 2003, the first female to be elected party chair by either major party in Texas. Additionally, she served as the President of the OneStar Foundation, an appointment she received from former Texas Governor Rick Perry. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church where she was recently installed as a Stephen Minister. Susan loved the presence of God and was a warrior, courageous and persistent in her career and faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Weddington; son, Sean Caldwell; and parents. Susan is survived by her brother, David Baker (Beth), Indianapolis, IN; granddaughter, Skyler Caldwell, Pflugerville, TX; grandsons, Seth Caldwell, San Antonio, TX and Greyson Caldwell, Niceville, FL. A private family graveside celebration will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband.
