Susan Rae Koger Wong, born May 30, 1958 in Oklahoma City, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2015 at home after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She spent her final days surrounded by loving family and friends, who were continuously inspired by the positivity and grace that Susan displayed throughout her journey with cancer.
Known for her unwavering optimism, Susan was a loyal friend and support system to all those whom she loved. She embodied true joy and gratefulness for every day she spent on this earth and could often be spotted dancing to the background music down the aisles of the grocery store. She enjoyed traveling (particularly to Europe), making lists, reading good books, jazzercising, and taking care of her rescue dogs, Penny and Bella. But the most important things to Susan were always raising her children and spending time with her family.
Susan was preceded in death by her father, Raymond M. Koger. She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 34 years, Barclay Wong; children, Nicholas and Elizabeth; mother, Shirley Hanson Koger; brother, Robert D. Koger, and his wife and her daughter, Victoria Malvido and Victoria Dee Becerril; mother and father-in-law, Richard and Marcelle Wong; brother-in-law, Chris Wong; sister-in-law, Danielle Pietro, and her husband and daughters, Richard, Maurianne, and Roxane; and best friend of nearly 40 years, Patti Nicklas, who will always be considered family. The family would like to thank Dr. Sharon Wilks of Cancer Care Center and Mindy Fuller, RN of Embrace Hospice for the special attention and care they provided to Susan.
A celebration of the life of Susan Rae Koger Wong will be held at Alamo Heights United Methodist Church on Wednesday, July 29th at 11:00 am. Donations may be made in the form of flowers, which can be sent to Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, or monetary gifts to the Alamo Heights United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund or Alamo City Cancer Council.
