'In my opinion Susie was one of the bravest people I knew. Whenever I see a catcher I think of Susie and how close she was to the batter. As a kid softball was huge in our family. The way I remember it, Susie was the best catcher there was. Our families were lifelong friends. She was always there for Papo's Bar-B-Q and parties. My heartfelt condolences to her family. God Bless and give you comfort in this time.'

'To Mom, 
I will remember you sacrificing to send me to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, so that I would get a better education. The extra starch you used to put in my school and little league baseball uniform, ensuring I was presentable. It was like wearing cardboard. No other kid had creases as sharp as mine. Those hot days in the sun at Sanchez's or any of the many Softball fields watching you play the sport you love. Telling us to walk to South Side Lions Recreation because, you did not want us on the streets during the summer break. Dancing with you as a young boy, when you knew I did not feel comfortable dancing to Mexican music (with my mother) in public at Mission and Comanche Park. The 4:30 a.m. walks in the dark, to the bus stop. To catch a bus that would take you to work, this because we did not have a car. Not being able to sleep after the sun rose on weekends, because the day was passing us by. Only to have us go outside and pull the weeds out of the garden. I remember you telling and showing me that hard work will teach me the value of it and to not take it for granted. You always said no matter what I did that, no one could hold me back but me. I will always remember the smile and glint in your hazel eyes when you were proud of what I had accomplished. I remember the love and attention you gave to your plants, and how they returned that love by constantly blooming in so many different colors. I remember even when you did not have much, you giving money to people in more need than yourself. 
Of course we all remember your fresh pot of beans, with rice and tortillas. The best ever! Although I did not know it, until I had traveled the world four times over. These are just a few memories I have of you. 
Mom you will be missed more than you know. Spending these last few months with you does not begin to repay the debt I owe you for all the love and support you gave me and everyone around you. Enjoy the rest you so dearly deserve. God and I know what you did for us. Thank you for allowing me to be with you.
