Sylvia Reed Ball (88, of San Antonio, TX) went home to the Lord on December 22, 2025. As befitting for our little Christmas queen, she made it home to heaven just in time to celebrate with Jesus! It also did not escape us that she passed almost exactly 16 years after her beloved husband Wayne.
Sylvia Reed was born on August 5, 1937, to Dorothy Lois (Scoggins) Reed and Marvin Worth Reed in Wichita Falls, TX. Sylvia was the “big sister” to two younger brothers, Marvin Worth Reed, Jr and David Brock Reed.
She attended Polytechnic High School in Ft Worth, TX, where she played tennis, and excelled in typing competitions. She was also active in-service organizations, volunteering her time in her community, as well as being a member of the Junior Red Cross and the Future Teachers of America. After graduation from Polytechnic High in 1955, Sylvia earned her associate’s degree in business training from Arlington State College.
Sylvia met the love of her life, Wayne Emerson Ball, while working at General Dynamics in early 1960. After a few months of dating, he proposed and they were engaged by July 9th. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Emerson Ball were united in holy matrimony at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Ft. Worth on September 17, 1960. Over the years, they were blessed with 5 children and moved their growing family first to San Antonio and then to Floresville, TX. As their kids grew up, she taught Sunday school at St. Andrews and substitute taught in Floresville ISD. Sylvia also worked for Koch Drilling, the Law Offices of John Winhoven and Nurses in Touch.
Our beautiful Mom/Grandmommy/Nana/GG loved gardening and flowers, walking her sweet doggies, cheering for the Aggie football team, anything pink, reading library books, sitting on the patio at Alamo Café, listening to Dr David Jeremiah, decorating for and hosting huge family Christmases and spending time with her husband and family. But above all, she loved Jesus, and we are comforted knowing she is with Him now.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her fraternal twin brother, Sydney (1938); her father, Marvin Sr (1983); her mother, Dorothy (1984); her brother, Marvin Jr (2004); her husband, Wayne (2009); her granddaughter, Reagon (2013); her son-in-law, Gary (2020); her granddaughter, Faith (2020); and her daughter, Amy (2022). What a glorious reunion indeed!
Sylvia is survived by her daughters, Juli Kohlenberg, Lauri Ball and Becki (Dennis) Rion; and son, Wayne Emerson Ball, Jr. Sylvia’s grandchildren include Amy (Shawn) Schorn, Shana Young, Megan (Todd) Markley, Allyn (Kerbi) Ball, Alexandria (Zach) Bankston, Payton (Malynda) Rion, Madison Rion, and Karigon (Schuyler) Wrinkle, along with her brother, David (Lynn) Reed; plus 17 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Please join us for services for Sylvia on Friday January 23, 2026at 11:30am at Porter Loring North Chapel. Interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In honor of Sylvia’s favorite color, we invite attendees to wear any shade of pink!
