Sylvia Garcia Galvez entered into the loving arms of our Lord on November 18, 2022 at the age of 82. She was born on January 23, 1940 in San Benito, Texas to Guadalupe Leandro and Luis Maldonado Garcia. She was the only daughter of five children.
Sylvia had one of the greatest virtues, the virtue of patience. She was a gentle and generous soul; welcoming everyone into her life. She had a smile that could easily change a bad day into a day of love and care. Sylvia deeply cared about her grandchildren. She took joy in caring for them as babies and into their adulthood. If any of the grandchildren needed anything, Grandma Sylvia was who they turned to. Sylvia also had a gift for cooking and was the person to call with any recipe or food questions. As the grandchildren grew up, she would walk them on how to make their favorite dish.
Sylvia met Tony during her freshman year of high school. They were married for 61 years. Together they were blessed with three children. Tony served in the United States Armed Forces and Sylvia moved around the world with him as his assignment changed. In 1962 they moved out of the Valley and moved around the United States until their overseas assignment in 1965 to France. After France, in 1967 they moved to England and lastly to Japan in 1968. By 1971 they settled again in San Antonio. She worked in the cosmetology industry from 1960 till about 1971. She later transitioned into the food service at Northside Independent School District when the family settled again in San Antonio. She remained with Northside Independent School District until her retirement in 2003.
Sylvia will be reunited in heaven with her parents, Guadalupe and Luis Garcia; brother, Jose Luis Garcia; daughter in law, Rebecca Ann Galvez.
Her memory will forever live in her loving husband, Tony; children, Michael A. (Carleen) Galvez, Rosalinda G. Martinez, and Louis Galvez (Jeanine); grandchildren, Michael Anthony (Susan) Galvez Jr., Priscilla Galvez, and Eloy Martinez. Great-grandchildren, Alejandro Galvez, Miguel Galvez, Xavier Galvez and Alicianna Garcia; brothers, Mario, Edmundo, and Tony; numerous nieces, nephews and extended relatives.
