May 11, 1945-June 9, 2026
Sylvia was born in San Antonio, Texas. However, as an army brat she did most of her growing up in Europe and United States. She graduated from Harlandale High School in 1963. She attended St. Mary’s University and double majored in Biology and English. Sylvia became a middle and high school teacher with Edgewood I.S.D.
A family icon, Sylvia was a mother, sister, aunt, and family. She passed peacefully with some family surrounding her. We will miss all the memories of her feisty and grouchy self, fashion statements, eccentric energy, knowledgeable opinions and story telling. She loved food, (especially if someone else made it) shopping, reading, cussing, all her prized possessions and history. She did not like taking pictures and most people.
Sylvia was proceeded in death by her parents, Jesse and Mary Mancillas and her sisters Dolores and Arlette M. Padilla.
Sylvia leaves behind her only son, David Mancillas; sister, Gilda M. Pelak (John), three brothers, Jesse B. Mancillas (Elida), Rudolfo B. Mancillas (Sylvia), Ricardo Mancillas (Monica); Brother-in-law, Darryl Padilla; nephews, nieces, grandnephews, and grandnieces. We know she is up in the heavens with her jeweled angel wings enjoying eternal life. Much love and you will forever be remembered at the table.
