Sylvia treasured spending time with her family and was happiest when surrounded by those she loved. Whether playing cards, enjoying a game of lotería, or going on a cruise, she found great joy in creating memories with them.
Sylvia also had a deep passion for scuba diving. She was an Emergency First Response Instructor and a longtime member of the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alice P. Gomez and Audon L. Gomez; her siblings, M. Estella Duque and Mark A. Gomez Sr.; her sister-in-law, Lisa Gomez; and her brother-in-law, Adam Mendoza.
Sylvia is survived by her siblings, David E. Gomez Sr., Alice Barrera (Abel), and Cynthia Mendoza; her brother-in-law, Ruben Duque Jr.; her children, Brittany Simmons and Darrion Simmons (Erinn); her granddaughter, Loren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Porter Loring Mortuary North. A Service will follow at 4:00 p.m.
