Teodora Hernandez Treviño’s parents were Leonor Garcia (Mother) and Faustino Hernandez (Father). She had eight siblings and is the fourth child among her brothers and sisters. Teodora Hernandez was married to her late husband, Miguel Angel Treviño (Mike), for 57 years and had five children: Mike Treviño, Jr., Conrad Treviño, Hector Treviño, Elia Treviño Neira, and Mario Hernandez Treviño. The family home was located at 2219 Guadalupe Street and was the primary residence for her Grandparents, Parents and eventually for Teodora and her immediate family. She lived in the family home for over 94 years (from the time she was born until the age of 94).
She was a woman of faith whose belief in God was evident in everything she did and said. She was funny, kind and always saw the positive in everyone! Throughout her years, she had various hobbies, such as, listening to music, embroidery, gardening, arts and crafts (like making cascarones with her grandchildren), cooking, baking and playing cards.
Her love of children and kindness were the hallmarks of her character and life! Throughout her life, she shared a unique gift of love to all who came in contact with her!
While her children were in primary school, she was President of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and remained very involved in her children’s school activities. She was employed by the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) for twenty-two (22) years in the cafeteria where she enjoyed making salads, cakes and pies.
Teodora was an incredible caretaker for various family members who fell ill and she raised most of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was the epitome of what a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother should be.
Teodora was always a caring, nurturing and helpful wife to Miguel, her husband for 57 years. She was a migrant worker at the tender age of 9 and worked the fields of San Antonio, Michigan and Ohio picking crops. That kind of dedication and commitment is the legacy and example she has set for her family.
The bible describes a Virtuous Woman in Proverbs 31, a woman that is elevated and honored by God.
There is no better example than Teodora Hernandez Treviño!
A Mother’s Love
A Mother’s (Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great-Great Grandmother) love is something that no one can explain, It is made of deep devotion and of sacrifice and pain,
It is endless and unselfish and enduring come what may For nothing can destroy it or take that love away . . .
It is patient and forgiving when all others are forsaking, And it never fails or falters even though the heart is breaking . . .
It believes beyond believing when the world around condemns,
And it glows with all the beauty of the rarest, brightest gems . . .
It is far beyond defining, it defies all explanation, And it still remains a secret like the mysteries of creation . . .
A many splendored miracle man cannot understand And another wondrous evidence of God’s tender guiding hand.
