It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Teresa Rose Bergman, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who passed away on October 19 at the age of 79. Though our hearts are broken, we are grateful for the many years of love, faith, laughter, and cherished memories she leaves behind.
Teresa was born in New Orleans but at a young age she moved to Iowa. She often recounted stories of her Grandma Clara and living on the farm in the small community of Nevinville. Later she moved to “the city” for high school. Teresa attended Iowa State University where she studied Sociology and met her husband Roger. They moved to Pennsylvania and raised 4 children. After she and Roger were empty nesters and retired, they moved to San Antonio, Texas. Here Teresa enjoyed her children, grandchildren, volunteering, going to the gym, and church activities.
Family was at the heart of Teresa’s life, and she had a special gift for bringing people together. She loved hosting holiday gatherings where everyone was welcome and no one felt like a stranger. Her home was a place of fellowship, laughter, and wonderful food. Family members and guests eagerly anticipated her traditional recipes, including her famous pumpkin roll, potato salad, chocolate caramel bars, and pumpkin bread. These familiar favorites were more than just food; they were part of the traditions and memories that made time together so special.
Some of Teresa’s happiest moments were spent with her children and grandchildren. She loved family game days and was always willing to play whatever game the grandkids suggested. Each year, before school started, she hosted a special cooking week to teach her grandchildren how to cook. Through these times together, she passed down not only recipes and skills but also a love of family, togetherness, and the simple joys of everyday life.
Teresa also loved adventure and travel, visiting all 50 states—not once, but twice! Her travels were a reflection of her curiosity and appreciation for the world around her. And while she loved exploring new places, she was just as happy enjoying the comforts of home. Her family knew and loved her fun side, including her guilty pleasure of watching Big Brother and other television shows she had enjoyed since childhood.
Above all, Teresa will be remembered for the way she shared Christ’s love through her words and actions. She was an amazing mother and grandmother, not only to her own family but also to the many others she embraced and nurtured over the years. Many came to know and love her as “Mom,” a reflection of the warmth, compassion, and unconditional love she shared so freely. Her heart and home were always open, and she made people feel welcome, cared for, and part of the family. She gave of herself generously and made a lasting difference in the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. Her faith was more than a belief; it was a way of life. Through her involvement in her Bible study group, The Women of Faith, and her willingness to welcome and nurture others, she touched countless lives and made people feel loved and valued.
Teresa’s greatest legacy is the faith she lived, the love she gave, and the family she nurtured. The lessons she taught, the traditions she established, the meals she prepared, and the laughter she shared will be treasured for generations.Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that her faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life and that the love she so freely gave will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Teresa was preceded in death by her parents, James Kosar, Jr., and Margaret Snow Kosar, and her grandmother, Clara Kosar.
She is survived by her husband, Roger Bergman; her children, Stacy Bergman (Bob Davis), Arthur Bergman (Alicia Shade), Sarah Aguilar, and Anne Rembisz (Mark Rembisz); and her siblings, Russ Kosar (Kris Kosar), Ethel San Pedro, Nick Kosar (Sue Kosar), Celeste Suter (Mark Suter), and Alice Erb. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Carlie, Alex, Amanda, Ted, Nathan, Samuel, Luke, Kevin, and Michael, who will forever cherish the memories they made with their grandmother.
Teresa’s faith, kindness, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her life was a beautiful testament to Christ’s love, and her legacy will remain a guiding presence for her family and all those whose lives she touched. Though we grieve her passing, we give thanks for the blessing of having had her in our lives and take comfort in the love and memories that will remain with us always.
