Terry Don Reichel, age 73, passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at his home in Floresville, TX, surrounded by his family, after a long fight with cancer. He was born on July 27, 1948 in Sedalia, MO to Lois Edith (Young) and Snyder James Reichel.
Terry was a true cowboy and Texan from the way he talked to how he lived his life and what he valued. Although born in another state, he made it to Texas just as fast as he could and never looked back!
Terrys charismatic personality and astute management skills made him very successful in the nightclub business. Over the course of a 30 year career he managed large clubs such as Graham Central Station, Denim & Diamonds, and Country Down Under, and he owned the Forest Inn on Goliad Rd in San Antonio (at the age of 21), and finally Kicaster Korner in Adkins. All of this gave him a wealth of stories to tell and brought him many lifelong friends.
Terry was an avid horseman with over 60 years in the saddle. When not working he could be found hanging out in his barn caring for and riding his horses. He was a life member of the South Texas Trail Ride (STTR) having been active on the ride since its inception in 1959 when he was a 10 year old willing to sleep in a stock trailer just in order to go on the ride. Terry held numerous positions with STTR from scout, captain of the scouts, assistant trail boss, trail boss, committee chairman, vice president, president, board member, and emeritus board member - what a ride! He found a second home and family with STTR. His dedication to STTR showed what a commitment to a "true love" is all about. Terry was also a life member of the San Antonio Livestock Exposition and a charter member of the Texas Equestrian Trail Riders Association.
Despite being diagnosed with MS at an early age, Terry never let it impact his ability to live a full life. He loved working in his yard, which he took tremendous pride in maintaining. He was always on the lookout for a good deal for plants for his yard, and he looked forward to planning and planting his vegetable garden every spring.
Terry had numerous canine companions throughout the years and was never without a furry friends by his side. Many of those were rescues that he found abandoned on the side of the road or roaming aimlessly searching for a loving home. His best buddy, Chonga, is 15 years old and misses his daddy everyday.
Terry was preceded in death by his father, Snyder James Reichel (1912-1953); mother, Lois Edith (Young) Reichel Trimnal (1923-2017); stepfather, Charles Irby Trimnal (1927-2007); sister, Marilyn Jeanette (Reichel) Amos (1935-2020); and brother in-law, Dorsey D. Amos (2016). Terry is survived by his sister, Jeanette Lynn (Trimnal) Lamers and her husband, David, of San Antonio, TX; nephew, Gary Amos (Marla), MO and niece, Dottie Bemboom, MO and several grand and great grand nieces and nephews, cousins, and five fur babies.
A loving son, brother and friend, Terry (PoPo T) will be missed by all. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to special friend, Katie Reed, for all of her loving care and support over the years and to Kindred Hospice (Bennie, Jesse, Raquel, Marissa, and Elias).
A memorial and birthday remembrance celebration is tentatively planned for July.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the MS Society or to the SA Humane Society.
