Tewanya C. Davenport, a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished daughter, and faithful servant of Christ, was called Home on December 29, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was 56 years old.
Born on April 11, 1969, in Rockford, Illinois, Tewanya was the beloved daughter of Roy Malone Sr. and Irma Jean Peete of Ripley, Tennessee. As the second youngest of four children, she shared a deep and lifelong bond with her siblings—Roderick, Teresa, and Roy Jr.—serving as a steadfast companion, confidante, and source of joy throughout their lives.
From an early age, Tewanya’s gifts were unmistakable. She possessed a natural affinity for the arts, especially singing and dancing, and her love for Jesus and the church shaped her character and her calling. As a young girl, she danced with the Chicago Ballet, a testament to her discipline, talent, and passion. Equally committed to her education, she consistently ranked among the top students in her class and earned an academic scholarship to the Keith Country Day School in Rockford, where she graduated in 1987.
Initially planning to pursue a degree in the arts at Illinois State University, Tewanya felt led to accept admission to Tuskegee University instead—a decision that would change the course of her life. During her sophomore year, she met fellow student Henry Davenport, then a senior. Their friendship grew into a lasting love. Henry graduated in 1989, and Tewanya completed her Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 1991. After a long and meaningful courtship, they were married on November 6, 1994, in a small, heartfelt ceremony in Rockford.
For the next 25 years, Tewanya embraced life as an Army spouse with grace, resilience, and unwavering devotion. Together with Henry, she traveled across the United States and Asia, making homes and memories in Fort Benning, Georgia; Fort Jackson, South Carolina; Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; Syracuse, New York; Seoul, South Korea; Nashville, Tennessee; West Point, New York; Fort Leavenworth again; and Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Through every transition, every deployment, and every challenge, Tewanya kept her family grounded, connected, and thriving.
A woman of remarkable strength and compassion, Tewanya homeschooled her children, ensuring they were nurtured academically, spiritually, and emotionally. She also served her country as a Federal Emergency Management Administrator, helping families rebuild their lives after natural disasters such as hurricanes and floods. Her heart for service extended deeply into every community she joined. She sang in church choirs, supported women’s and prayer ministries, prepared and delivered meals to grieving or ill families, and visited those who were hospitalized or homebound. Her faith was not merely spoken—it was lived.
Above all, Tewanya was profoundly grateful for her family. She cherished her husband and children—Lee, Joseph, and Eden Grace—and expressed that gratitude often and openly. Her love for them was the center of her life and the source of her greatest joy.
Tewanya is survived by her beloved husband, Henry; her son and daughter in law, Lee and Kaylee Davenport; her son, Joseph; and her daughter, Eden Grace. She is also survived by her father, Roy Malone Sr.; her brother, Roy Jr.; her sister, Teresa; her mother in law, Ursula; her sisters in law, Tanja and Denisa; her brothers in law, Larry and Sam; her nephews, Aiden, Trevor, and Quinton; her nieces, Kayla and Emily; and a host of extended family members and dear friends.
She will be remembered as an exceptional wife, a loving mother, an unwavering friend, and a devoted follower of Christ. Tewanya embodied courage, grace, and quiet strength. Her beauty, peace, joy, encouragement, and love touched countless lives, and her legacy will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Cornerstone Church (18755 Stone Oak Pkwy, San Antonio, TX 78258) with a service to follow. Interment will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery (1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, Tx 78209).
