

She was a native of Pittsfield, MA. As her husband, Wesley H. Baker pursued a military career in the Air Force; she spent her adult life as a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker.
Thelma also worked many years as an executive secretary. After enjoying retirement in San Antonio, she and her husband moved to Kingsport to be near their daughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy E. and Bessie E. Lapp and her husband, Col. Wesley H. Baker.
She is survived by two children, David J. Baker and wife, Connie of Louisville, KY, and Susan B. Tarpley and husband, Ray of Kingsport, TN; four grandchildren, Laura M. Rymes of Jefferson, MD, Treva L.Tarpley of Kingsport, TN, Elizabeth T. Corpstein of Kingsport, TN, and Anderson R. Tarpley, III of Palm Bay, FL; five great-grandchildren, Sydney M. Rymes and William H. Quint Rymes, V., Abigail L. Cox, Emery J. Corpstein, and Anderson R. Tarpley, IV; and daughter-in-law, Diane E. Baker of Niceville, FL.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 8, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Porter Loring.
