Thelma S. Blanton, born in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, on January 10, 1919, died Monday April 2, 2012. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Lt. Col. Franklin D. Blanton and a son Franklin D. Blanton Jr. She is survived by two daughters, Susan Blanton and Jane Dare; a son, Jeff Blanton; two grandsons, Nicolaus Doran-Dare and Joseph Blake-Dare; and sister, Hilda Fusner. After marrying Franklin in 1942, Thelma enjoyed the Air Force life of travel, bridge clubs, bowling, and golfing. After Franklin’s retirement in 1970, in Texas, Thelma worked for Dillards where she stayed until 1993. After her retirement she continued to enjoy traveling, dining with family and friends, gardening, and golfing- which she played into her nineties. She will be missed by all who knew her. Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 10:00am at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach,San Antonio, TX.
