Theresa Sue Stengel was born on February 24, 1943, in New Albany, Indiana, the fourth child of eight siblings. In 1963, a cashier at Frischs Big Boy, she met a shy, funny manager who soon became her very best friend for life. After spending two years of countless nights talking until the sun came up, Theresa and Doug recognized the depth of their connection was beyond friendship. On October 2, 1965, they married. Doug was the love of her life and she of his. Together, they raised four children in south-central Texas, Amy Marie Stengel, Timothy John Stengel, Wendy Therese Stengel, and Douglas Joseph Stengel. Theresas evolution to "Grandma" was no less than magical.
She dearly loved her six grandchildren: Madeleine Claire Stengel, Clark Kendall Stevens, Natalie Rose Clare, Blake Edward Stevens, Sienna Katherine Stengel, and Theodore John Stengel. She found no greater joy than being a grandma. She was a loving mother-in-law to Sandra Goyne Stengel and Nicole Antionette Lopez-Stengel. Though no life is without struggle, Theresas life, at times, bared great challenge. Theresa was a gifted sketch artist and painter, a talent she discovered much later in her life. She loved birds, flowers, reading, music, and trips to the beach and mountains with her husband.
She will be remembered most for her resilience, her strength, her incredible will, her mischievous, playful spirit, and her deep love for her family. In her final breath on April 13, 2022, she was in her home in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by her constant, loving husband and her children.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
